What is Wispr Flow, is it safe, and is it worth it?
Wispr Flow is a cloud dictation app for Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android with a free plan. By its own privacy page it deletes your audio once transcribed unless you turn on cloud storage, and it lists SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001. We have not tested its accuracy, so this is a read of its public pages.
Written by Zefmi, the maker of one of the apps compared, so we are not neutral. Updated 31 Oct 2026. We read Wispr Flow's public pages that day and wrote what we found in our own words. The links are under the table. If something has changed, email support@zefmi.com and we will fix it.

| Wispr Flow | Zefmi | |
|---|---|---|
| Your audio after it is transcribed | Deleted as soon as it is transcribed, unless you turn on Dictation cloud storage | Zefmi's relay stores none. AssemblyAI transcribes it; on the one-shot path the transcript and audio are deleted there afterwards |
| Used to train models | A setting, "Improve the model for everyone", lets Wispr use your audio, transcripts and edits. Off means nothing is used. On Growth and Enterprise it is off and locked | Clean-up text goes only to providers that do not log or train on prompts. Each speech provider's own policy is linked on the security page |
| Reads what is on your screen | Has a "Context awareness" control. Read its privacy page for exactly what it collects; we did not test it | Reads the text around your cursor to clean up your words. You can switch this off. It never reads password fields. No screenshots |
| Security papers | SOC 2 Type II report (audited by A-LIGN), ISO 27001, HIPAA agreement on any plan for dictation | None. Not HIPAA-certified, no BAA |
| Price | Free plan, then Pro $15 a user a month | US$5 a month |

What is Wispr Flow?
A dictation app: you hold a key, speak, and cleaned-up text is typed into the app you are using. It runs on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, lists more than 100 languages, learns names and jargon, and has dictionary and snippets. It has also added a meeting Notetaker.
Is Wispr Flow safe?
Judged by what it publishes, it takes security seriously: encryption in transit (TLS 1.2 or newer) and at rest (AES-256), logged access, a SOC 2 Type II report, ISO 27001 and a HIPAA agreement. The caveat is that your voice still travels to its servers, and the training setting is yours to turn off. We have not audited it, so treat this as what the company says, not what we verified.
Does Wispr Flow take screenshots?
Some Reddit posts claim it captures the active window. Wispr Flow's privacy page lists a "Context awareness" control but we could not confirm from the page alone what it reads, so we make no claim. If it matters to you, read that page and ask the company. Zefmi reads only text near the cursor and takes no screenshots.
Does Wispr Flow actually work?
We have not run an accuracy test, so we publish no accuracy number for it or for ourselves. It is a widely used app with a free plan, which makes it easy to try for yourself.
Is Wispr Flow worth it?
If you dictate a lot and want phone apps, probably. If price matters, see Wispr Flow pricing for the cost over one to three years.
